About the Event

Sophie Wootton is running a fun and experimental workshop in alcohol ink art. Alcohol inks are a lesser known medium that can create some beautiful and unexpected results. The nature of this medium lends itself to abstract work but with a bit of patience and practice can be controlled to an extent, allowing you to create expressive illustrations.

You will get all the knowledge to create your very own alcohol ink illustrations on yupo paper and ceramics. The workshop runs for 5 hours, where you will have plenty of time to get familiarised with the fluid and very colourful nature of alcohol inks. The morning will consist of covering the basics of alcohol inks and lots of experimentation before leading onto a little more structure in the afternoon. This time also includes a lunch break and refreshments which are all provided for.

As well as learning the techniques involved with creating alcohol ink illustrations you will also learn the resin process Sophie uses to finish her pieces with, via a digital demonstration. All materials are provided – this includes all of the ink, the isopropyl alcohol, yupo paper, posca pens, ceramics and varnish to protect your artworks. At the end of the workshop you get to take all of your artworks on yupo paper home with you. The artworks created on ceramic will be taken and resined for you by Sophie and will be ready for collection the following week.

What you will learn:

A general knowledge of the basic alcohol ink principles.

Knowledge and guidance to create your very own alcohol ink illustrations.

Knowledge of how to draw with posca pens on alcohol ink.

Different techniques for moving and drying the inks.

How to resin a piece of alcohol ink art via a digital demonstration.

What you will get:

A lovely creative day with fellow like minded creative individuals.

All materials provided (this includes all of the ink, the isopropyl alcohol, the posca pens, protective gloves, ceramics and yupo paper)

Take home your very own artworks and have your favourite pieces resined for you, giving them a lasting shine and protection.

What to bring:

This workshop does not require you to bring anything.

What to wear:

Wear old clothes or anything you don’t mind getting slightly messy- alcohol ink can get messy and it doesn’t wash off easily. Rubber gloves will be provided.
